Visit to the British Optical Association Museum

A visit to the British Optical Association Museum

The British Optical Association Museum at the College of Optometrists is an extraordinary museum. Its unique mix of art works, institutional treasures, scientific instruments and fashion items means that the collection appeals to everyone. It is a museum of science, design and technology, hygiene, prosthetics, disability, charitable causes and religious and cultural attitudes all in one place.

Highlights include the spectacles of Gandhi, the last pair of glasses purchased by Marilyn Monroe and many other items relating to the film industry, including the original Harry Potter frame and Leonardo di Caprio’s contact lens.

The tour will last about an hour or so and we will be guided by the museum curator, Neil Handley. PhD, AMA, FRSA

We will meet outside the museum at 10.50 and there will be an optional charge of £10 (payable in cash on the day).

After the tour we will cross over to St Martin in the Fields Crypt café  for lunch (self-funding) and a chance to socialise.
