Connecting Women ・ Inspiring Leaders ・ Giving Back

Dear LMA members

A warm welcome to several news members – Emma McWilliams ( Actuaries), Carolyn Roberts (Water Conservators) and Shirley Creed (Chartered Secretaries). We look forward to meeting you at our forthcoming events.

We had a great gathering for our anniversary lunch on October 6th and the photographs taken by Philip McCarthy for the occasion can be viewed here. Our speaker, Erica Stary, was a real tour de force, galvanising us all to do more to encourage the next generations and supporting our  Lady Mayor, Dame Sue Langley.

We supported her by taking part in this year’s Lady Mayor’s Show on November 8th.  Huge thanks to both Virgina Bond and Maria Chanmugam who worked their socks off to get everything in order for the Big Day.

The website is now operational…. Judith Millidge has done a splendid job most ably helped by Audrey Canning and all future events – from December onwards – can be booked through it. The website enables us to share knowledge and promote fellowship amongst Lady Masters. It will also keep you up-to-date with LMA and City matters, hopefully a bit of gossip and if anyone has some interesting news to add, please contact Judith. webmaster@ladymasters.org.uk. We also have an Instagram page – @ladymastersassociation. Pass the word around.

Please make a note that on January 22nd 2026, Clive Stewart-Lockhart will be giving a talk by Zoom on the early 20th century  furniture, textile and interior designer, Betty Joel, who without any formal training set up her own business in 1921 on Hayling Island with a shop in Sloane Street.

Book your place here.

We are also planning a walk in Epping Forest in the Spring, lunch at the Ironmongers Hall on February 23rd , our AGM on April 20th and the successful Wardens evening on May 18th, so lots to look forward to. All these events will be bookable through the website.

Finally, the Association has supported the Magpie Project  for the past three years, providing a secure place for mums and pre-school children living in temporary accommodation. We will be looking for other small charities to support, preferably those with links to women with difficulties. Do let me know if you wish to nominate a charity.

With warm wishes

Georgie Gough
